Commons Named for Stafford
The newly created green space next to the Talley Student Center will be named the Thomas H. Stafford Jr. Commons in recognition of Stafford’s years of service to the university. Stafford has been vice chancellor for student affairs since 1983 and a university employee since 1971. During his tenure as vice chancellor, he served on the Defense Advisory Committee on Women in the Services, a panel that advised the Secretary of Defense on issues relating to women in the military. He was the only North Carolinian on the committee from 1990 to 1993. The naming of the newly created commons for Stafford honors his special relationship with NC State and his commitment to making students the university’s top priority.
