Student Wins Udall Scholarship
Caroline Hansley of Hendersonville, a junior majoring in interdisciplinary studies with a concentration in agroecology and social entrepreneurship, has received a Morris K. Udall scholarship for the 2013-14 academic year.
Udall Scholarships are valued at a maximum of $5,000 and are offered to second- and third-year undergraduate students committed to careers related to the environment, tribal public policy or Native American health care. Hansley was one of 50 recipients from a field of 488 applicants.
She is chair of the sustainability commission for NC State’s student government and is the campus coordinator for Greenpeace. She is an active member of the Wolfpack Environmental Student Association and developed and helps direct the Eco-Ambassadors Peer Education Program. She plans to pursue a master’s degree in environmental leadership and management, with hopes for a career in environmental campaigning and organizing for an N.C. nonprofit or government entity.
