Hunt Library Designers Honored
This just in from the frozen fjords of Norway: Snøhetta, the lead design firm for the Hunt Library, has won another international award.
The firm is a co-recipient of the 2010 European Prize for Urban Public Space, based on its design of the National Opera House in Oslo, Norway. The largest cultural center built in the country in 700 years is rapidly becoming an iconic building – similar to the Sydney Opera House in Australia – except that Oslo’s opera house rises out of the adjacent fjord.
Snøhetta is working with Pearce Brinkley Cease + Lee, the North Carolina-based executive architect for the new Hunt Library on Centennial Campus.
NC State broke ground on the project in October 2009. Construction is expected to be completed in 2012.
