NC State Hosts Lumberjack Competition

North Carolina State University will host a range of professional and collegiate lumberjacks for the Southern Qualifier of the Stihl Timbersports Series this week, with most events taking place Friday, March 16 and Saturday, March 17 on Centennial Campus and at the State Farmers Market.
The Southern Forestry Conclave, involving students from 15 different schools, will take place Friday afternoon and all day Saturday on athletic fields off Achievement Drive on Centennial Campus. Achievement Drive runs between Centennial Drive and Main Campus Drive. Events include axe throw, archery and the log birl, among many others.
The Stihl Timbersports event begins at 5 p.m. on Friday at the State Farmers Market, featuring professional and collegiate competitors. Tickets are $15 and $5 for NC State students with a student ID. Kids 10 and under are admitted free.

Regional qualifiers advance to the Pro and Collegiate National Championships June 1-3 in Pigeon Forge, Tenn.
In addition to the lumberjack events, NC State’s Department of Forestry and Environmental Resources will host the 2012 Arbor Day Celebration at the State Farmers Market from 2 to 6 p.m. on Friday. The event is free and open to the public and will have educational exhibits, demonstrations and activities for children. About 1,000 free seedlings (dogwood and crabapple) will be available.
