Eastman Chemical Company Partnership With NC State

The Eastman Chemical Company Center of Excellence has selected the first 11 proposals for funding as part of the partnership between NC State and Eastman Chemical Company.

The joint NC State-Eastman research steering team chose the 11 projects among 50 proposals submitted by NC State faculty.

“We are extremely pleased with the quality of proposals and engagement of both NC State faculty and Eastman team members in the overall process,” says Stewart Witzeman, director of the Eastman Innovation Center (EIC). The EIC will open in early 2013 as an Eastman lab on NC State’s Centennial Campus and will host visiting Eastman scientists as well as NC State faculty and students.

Witzeman expects a second round of proposals to be solicited and awarded in spring 2013.

In August, NC State and Eastman signed a six-year, $10 million agreement to conduct joint cutting-edge research in chemistry, materials science and other scientific disciplines.
