Army Gen. H.R. McMaster to Speak on Evolution of Iraq Conflict

What:  North Carolina State University will be host to Army Brig. Gen. H.R. McMaster, who will speak on the evolution of the conflict in Iraq from 2003-2009. McMaster is director of concept development and experimentation at the Army Capabilities Integration Center at Fort Monroe, Va. While serving as commander of the Third Armored Cavalry Regiment from 2005-2006, his innovative counterinsurgency strategy to retake the Iraqi city of Tal Afar later served as a model for future Army operations, and was chronicled in an April 2006 New Yorker article by George Packer.

Who:  Sponsored by NC State’s School of Public and International Affairs, the NC State College of Humanities and Social Sciences and the Triangle Institute for Security Studies.

When: Monday, Sept. 21, from 1:30 to 3 p.m.

Where: Stewart Theatre, located in the Talley Student Center on Cates Avenue on the NC State campus.

Cost: McMaster’s presentation is free and open to the public.
