King Wins Educator Award

Dr. Russell King, professor of industrial and systems engineering, won the 2010 Albert G. Holzman Distinguished Educator Award from the Institute of Industrial Engineers.

The award recognizes educators who have contributed significantly to the profession. King is a previous winner of the Alumni Association Outstanding Teacher Award, the NC State Outstanding Teacher Award and the Alumni Association Distinguished Graduate Professorship Award.

King is director of graduate programs in the Edward P. Fitts Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering, where he has played a major role in developing a dual Master of Industrial Engineering/Master of Business Administration program and a distance education Master of Engineering degree program. He is also director of the Furniture Manufacturing and Management Center.

King’s research interests involve production scheduling, manufacturing cell design and the modeling, design and control of textile supply chains. He has also led large research teams including three interconnected projects sponsored by Sandia National Laboratories and the National Textile Center (NTC). NTC recognized these projects with its Scientific Excellence Award for 1992 to 2002.
