NC State Unveils Coach Kay Yow Memorial
North Carolina State University students, faculty, staff and friends will unveil the new Kay Yow Memorial – dedicated to NC State’s beloved former women’s basketball coach – on Tuesday, Aug. 24 at 3 p.m.
Media coverage of the event is invited. The memorial is located on the west side of Reynolds Coliseum. Parking is available at the Coliseum deck, next to Reynolds Coliseum.
The unveiling event will include remarks by NC State Chancellor Randy Woodson; Debbie Yow, NC State athletic director and sister of Kay Yow; Jeffrey Johnson, NC State senior and chair of the Kay Yow Memorial Committee; and Linda Robuck, a friend of the Yow family.
Kay Yow passed away in January 2009 after a long, heroic battle with breast cancer. The memorial features a garden surrounding a stone-paved walkway leading to the bust of Coach Yow, which sits on a pink granite pedestal. NC State’s Student Government raised $50,000 to create the memorial garden, called the “Coaches Corner,” which will eventually honor several coaches who have built championship teams at NC State. Yow was the students’ choice to be the first honoree.
Following the closing remarks, a reception will be held in the north gallery of the Talley Student Center.
