Campus Police Leaders in Special Olympics Giving

NC State’s University Police Department helped set the pace in a statewide law enforcement campaign that raised more than $1 million for Special Olympics.

The top three contributors were the Guilford County Sheriff’s Department with $61,876, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department with 55,825 and the NC State University Police Department with $44,738. For five years, campus police have organized a polar plunge and 5K run on Centennial Campus to benefit Special Olympics.

The 2010 North Carolina Law Enforcement Torch Run campaign raised $1,004,721, a 5 percent increase over last year’s total. For a list of agencies that contributed, visit the campaign Web site.
