A Gift of More Time
Think of it as a belated holiday gift, courtesy of the State of North Carolina. Vacation hours increase slightly for full-time SPA employees in 2011 as part of the state’s effort to offer more competitive benefits.
If you’ve been a state employee for two years or less, you’ll begin earning 9 hours and 20 minutes of annual leave per month for a total of 14 days of vacation per year. That’s an increase of just over two days of paid time off.
All other full-time SPA employees get an additional 10 minutes of vacation leave per month. There’s a handy chart online.
It will also be easier to donate sick leave to a colleague starting in 2011. Changes to the voluntary shared leave policy allow state employees to donate up to five days of sick leave to a nonfamily member who works for a UNC system university or state agency. Recipients are allowed a maximum of 20 days of leave donated from nonfamily members.
