Service NC State Breaks Records
Students, faculty and staff gave more than 1,000 pints of blood and surpassed 1.8 million meals packed on campus during Service NC State events last week.
Blood donors gave 1,032 pints on Friday, exceeding the 1,000-pint goal. It was the second year NC State has teamed up with the American Red Cross to provide blood during a critical time of the year.
On Saturday, volunteers packaged 103,506 meals to feed the hungry around the world in partnership with Raleigh-based nonprofit Stop Hunger Now. More than one million meals have been packaged at Service NC State events in six years.
“Service NC State was a huge success and a great example of what we can accomplish when we come together as a university community,” said Mike Giancola, director of the Center for Student Leadership Ethics and Public Service, which organizes the events.
