Former Alumni Association Head Dies

N. Clark Hatcher Jr., former furniture executive and president of the NC State Alumni Association, died Feb. 3 at his home in Mt. Airy, N.C. He was 81.

Hatcher led the Alumni Association from 1987-88.  He was a board member of the NC State Engineering Foundation and member of the NCSU Athletic Council. He was a member of the Lifetime Giving Society at NC State and served on the selection committee for the Park Scholarships program.

In 2007, Hatcher was named a distinguished alumnus of the Edward P. Fitts Departments of Industrial and Systems Engineering.

Hatcher held executive posts with several different furniture companies during a 43-year career in the industry. He retired in 1995 from the Masco Corporation, where he was a vice president. He served on the board of directors for the American Furniture Manufacturers Association.

He served as an officer in the U.S. Air Force elite Black Sheep Squadron in Korea and Japan.

Hatcher is survived his wife, Katherine B. Parries of Mt. Airy, N.C.;  three sons, two stepdaughters, two sisters and 10 grandchildren.
