New Area Code Means More Dialing

Beginning Friday (March 31), campus telephone users will have to dial 7, the area code and the seven-digit telephone number to make local calls. The added dialing is necessary because the Triangle has a new area code, 984.

Triangle residents will need to dial all 10 digits to make local calls because the 984 area code overlays the existing 919 zone.

New telephone numbers will have the 984 area code, which means your latest addition could be a 984 number while your work, home or cell phone numbers still have the 919 area code.

Campus telephone numbers with the prefix 512, 513 or 515 remain in the 919 area code.
