Ribbon-Cutting Events at Charging Stations

Industry and university leaders will host ribbon-cutting events for the electric vehicle charging stations at the McKimmon Center and the Joyner Visitor Center on Thursday, April 19. Here’s the schedule:

10:00 a.m. McKimmon Center parking lot (1201 Gorman Street) across from the Solar House. Speakers: Mike Waters with Progress Energy, Steve Kalland with the North Carolina Solar Center and Chris Brown with NC  State Research, Innovation and Economic Development.

10:30 a.m. Joyner Visitor Center (1210 Varsity Drive). Speakers: Anne Tazwell with the North Carolina Solar Center, Dr. V. William DeLuca with the NC State College of Education.

10:45 a.m. Reception with refreshments in the Joyner Visitor Center rotunda.

The two Level 2 Eaton charging stations and installation were provided by Progress Energy as part of a grant the company received from the Department of Energy. A group of university representatives worked with Progress Energy to select an appropriate campus location for the stations, which went active in February. The Clipper Creek combination Level I / Level II charging stations were made possible by the North Carolina Solar Center’s Clean Fuels Advanced Technologies, a grant program funded by the North Carolina Department of Transportation, along with the NC State Department of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics Education and the Joyner Visitor Center. The same program funded the conversion of a passenger van from conventional/gas to all-electric to be used for campus visits.

This event is running in conjunction with the State Energy Office’s annual Sustainable Energy Conference, being held at the McKimmon Center, so allow extra time for parking.
