Zhu Wins Sigma Xi Award

Dr. Yong Zhu, assistant professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering, has received the 2012 Sigma Xi Faculty Research Award from NC State’s chapter of Sigma Xi, the scientific research society. The award honors young scientists and engineers who have excelled in their areas of research.

The award was presented at Sigma Xi’s general meeting on April 17.

Zhu’s research interests focus on the boundary between micro and nanotechnology and the mechanics of materials, including the mechanics and electromechanical coupling of low-dimensional nanostructures.

Zhu received his B.S. degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Science and Technology of China in 1999, and his master’s and doctoral degrees in mechanical engineering from Northwestern University in 2001 and 2005, respectively. He joined the faculty of NC State in 2007 after a post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Texas at Austin.
