Talley Opens New Spaces

More new features are ready to be unveiled at the new Talley Student Union next week as the final touches are put on the first phase.

Late last year, after two years of demolition and reconstruction, the first wave of renovations — including four new dining options and gaming and lounge areas — opened for business.

Beginning Monday and continuing throughout the week, the union will unveil its new ballroom, meeting rooms, a shared student and faculty governance chamber, administrative offices, a Wolf Xpress Print & Copy outlet and two new dining options, One Earth World Cuisine and Port City Java.

Spring Update in Ballroom

On Monday at 10 a.m., Chancellor Randy Woodson will get the kickoff events started with his Spring Update in the State Ballroom. Students, staff and faculty are invited to attend Woodson’s address that recognizes recent university accomplishments and reiterates his vision for the future.

Throughout the week, visitors can take a tour of the new amenities, beginning at the start of every hour from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. at the information desk. A slew of other activities will continue throughout the week.

All That Jazz

There will be a night of live music on Wednesday, when jazz guitarist Steven Ray, a member of the NC State Jazz Ensembles and a sophomore in chemical engineering, performs at the One Earth Lounge.

The events end on Saturday when the Union Activities Board hosts the fifth-annual TEDxNCSU conference. This year’s theme is “The Journey” and will feature faculty, staff and student speakers. Participants can register in advance here.

With the construction of the first phase now complete, second phase construction continues, as the back side of Talley along Cates Avenue will be transformed into the new home of NC State Bookstores, Student Involvement, the 1887 Bistro and Starbucks, as well as more lounge, meeting and office space. Work is scheduled to be completed by the spring of 2015.
