New Parking Permit Process In Place

All NC State faculty and staff can now renew their annual and biennial parking permits sooner than usual and avoid the early-semester rush at the NC State Transportation office. In fact, there’s no need to go to the office on Sullivan Drive at all.

Beginning Monday, employees can visit the NC State Transportation home page to update their personal information and renew permits as part of a new process in which all parking permits for employees will be renewed based on the fiscal year, while students will be processed based on the academic year.

The new process eliminates the dual employee-student overlap to get parking permits when the fall semester begins in the middle of August.

“This helps us serve employees and students at different times,” says director of transportation Cathy Reeve. “Now we can give better customer service to everyone.”

The renewal process also applies to all employee GoPasses and carpool permits.

Employees who pay for their permit by payroll deduction can up do so beginning June 20 and it will be valid for two years. Those who pay for their permits in full by credit card can do so beginning July 1 and it will be valid for one year. Permits will be mailed to employees as soon they update all information and select a payment method (credit card or payroll deduction).

Permits will be active and valid as soon as they arrive, but they must be displayed by Aug. 16 to avoid notices, warnings or tickets.

Additional information about the renewal process is available here.

Parking permit graphicAnother change concerns where to display parking permits on vehicles. Permits should now be displayed on the driver’s side of the windshield instead of the passenger’s side, to allow easier gate access for passes with embedded chips. This change applies to all existing permits as well as to new passes that will be mailed out in the coming weeks.

Parking passes will now include those chips, and gate access will no longer be granted with an employee identification card after Aug. 16.

Finally, the carpool system is also changing to allow participants to update their information and invite other riders to join a carpool online.
