“We are excited to welcome Eduardo to the NC State family,” said Arden. “His extensive experience and leadership in finance, planning, business administration and university operations will make him an invaluable asset to our team.”

Lorente currently serves as associate vice president for budget and planning at the University of Maryland. In this position, he supports university leadership in the development of fiscal policy and strategy, works closely with divisional leaders to monitor the financial and operational performance of their respective areas, coordinates the preparation of the university budget, directs and manages financial data analysis and reporting, and advises the university’s CFO on personnel and operational matters.

In his new role, Lorente will be responsible for managing all financial operations for the Office of the Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost, including budget preparation, budget management, budget planning and expenditure monitoring, and budget recommendations to assure financial stability and fiscal health. Additionally, he will provide strong leadership, strategic direction and fiscal oversight for the Budget and Business Operations unit.

Previously, Lorente served as the associate vice provost for budget and financial planning in the Office of the Executive Vice President and Provost at the University of Virginia where he guided financial planning and analysis for the academic division and served as a business advisor to the provost and vice provosts. Lorente also held several budget- and financial-related positions in the Division of Biology and Medicine at Brown University

“Analyzing financial and operational data to understand business performance, building partnerships to solve problems and explore opportunities, and promoting a culture of planning and strategic thinking all play a key role in the successful operation and growth of a university,” said Lorente. “I look forward to working with this experienced and knowledgeable team to continue to advance the mission and goals of the Provost’s Office and NC State.”

Lorente received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in accounting from Florida International University. He has earned both the Certified Public Accountant license and Certified Internal Auditor license. He also holds a certificate from the University of Virginia in leadership in academic matters and a certificate from the Institute for Management and Leadership in Education at Harvard University.
