FDA approves first bionic eye for the blindPackaging Digest, March 25, 2013. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved bionic eye for use by individuals with end-stage retinitis pigmentosa. The project, conducted under a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement, included five universities – California Institute of Technology; Doheny Eye Institute at the University of Southern California; North Carolina State University; University of Utah; and the University of California.
