Few Pre-Med Students Hope to Go Into Primary Care, U.S. News University Directory, Feb. 27, 2013. A 2012 study by researchers from North Carolina State University, East Carolina University and Yeshiva University’s Albert Einstein College of Medicine found that students who valued earning a high salary or anticipated having a lot of student debt were significantly more likely to enter a medical specialty, even if they went to medical school with the intention of becoming a primary care physician.
