Save the Date: 5 Years of Google
Remember 2011, when Game of Thrones debuted, the 99 percent got fussy and Google Apps arrived to occupy NC State? We’ll celebrate at least one of those events on Nov. 30 with speakers, contests and prizes.
Notice a change in your email? Wednesday was Google Day, when the university switched from GroupWise and WolfWise to Google Apps. Here's an overview of the new features.
NC State Counts Down to G-Day
On G-Day all current email and associated folders, GroupWise auto-archives, calendar entries, personal and global address books—with the exception of frequent contacts—will be migrated to Google Apps.
Get Ready for Google
It won't be long before faculty and staff join students on a single email and calendar system. Learn more about Google Apps @ NC State.
NC State announced this week that it will deploy the free Google Apps Education Edition as its official university e-mail service for students. In addition to receiving 35 times more storage space for e-mail, students will have access to Google’s suite of popular collaboration tools, including a word processor, chat program, calendar and Web site builder.
It's a classic example of competing interests. Students want access to the latest interactive software applications and plenty of storage space for big data files. Now, thanks to a partnership with Google, both sides are getting exactly what they want - and saving an estimated $60,000 per year.
