NC State Tax Expert Can Help You Save Money This Year and Next

April 15 is less than a month away, and many people are struggling with their tax returns. Federal tax law is constantly changing, and understanding the new rules can save you a lot of money. For example, Dr. Roby Sawyers explains, a new extra standard deduction for real estate taxes paid could save you hundreds of dollars on your 2008 taxes. And, if you had a baby last year, you may qualify for an additional recovery rebate amount that could save you hundreds more. Sawyers, a professor of accounting at North Carolina State University, can explain these and other new tax rules for 2008.

And the federal stimulus package also included sizeable changes to the tax code, such as the so-called “making work pay” credit, that will have significant ramifications for taxpayers in 2009. Sawyers can explain what taxpayers can expect in the coming year, including a new rule that offers first-time homebuyers thousands of dollars in tax credits that will never need to be repaid.
