NC State Will Break Ground on Greek Village Feb. 22

North Carolina State University will hold a groundbreaking ceremony for the new Greek Village on Friday, Feb. 22, at 11:15 a.m.

Media coverage is invited. The ceremony is open to the public and will be held adjacent to the Alpha Delta Pi House at 2309 South Fraternity Court. Fraternity Court can be accessed from Varsity Drive or Dan Allen Drive.

The Greek Village project is a 10-year, $104 million overhaul of the existing Greek Court. Scheduled improvements include the replacement of all current 1960s-era fraternity and sorority houses in a phased demolition, all new roadways and infrastructure as well as other amenities.

The project is unique in that it will also provide each participating chapter the opportunity to design, build and own its house. The term of the ground lease will be for 40 years, renewable for an additional 40 years, at a cost of $1 per year. The project will include 20 chapter houses and town homes for smaller groups.

The Greek organizations will be responsible for the cost of building and maintaining the new chapter houses, while planning and infrastructure costs will be shared between the university and the organizations. Four fraternities have committed to the first phase of the project and two existing houses will be demolished over the summer to make room for Phase I. Additional construction involving infrastructure and new roadways will also be completed during this phase.
