You don’t have to earn over $200,000 to get a tax break. The NC State bookstores aren’t charging sales tax on a wide range of school supplies, including computers, this weekend. No need to alert the crack investigative team at the News & Observer. This is actually part of the government-sanctioned sales tax holiday that applies across the state.

The sales tax holiday runs from Friday, Aug. 6, through Sunday, Aug. 8. What can you save on?

• Textbooks: All textbooks (new and used) individually priced at $300 or less. Textbooks can be ordered online and held at the store for pick up.
• Computers: Laptops, netbooks and desktop CPUs under $3,500.
• Computer Peripherals: monitors, keyboards, mice, speakers and internal upgrades are eligible when purchased with a computer.
• Computer Supplies: most computer supplies with an individual price of $250 or less. This includes printers, printer supplies, storage media, flash drives, wireless adapters and carrying cases.
• Other: School supplies, calculators, eBook readers, Apple iPods and iPads, backpacks, apparel and sports equipment also qualify.
