NC State Celebrates Opening Of New Engineering Building

North Carolina State University is opening a new building on its Centennial Campus that will provide a state-of-the-art platform for students and faculty to make the next generation of breakthroughs in mechanical, aerospace and biomedical engineering. An event marking the opening of Engineering Building III will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 15.

Media coverage is invited. The event will be held just outside Engineering Building III, located at 911 Oval Drive on NC State’s Centennial Campus. Media attending the event should contact News Services for parking information.

The event will include a reception and student-led tours of the 248,000-square-foot building, which includes 80 laboratories, two wind tunnels and a flight test cell, as well as classrooms, offices and other research space. Engineering Building III will be home to the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering and the Joint NC State-UNC Department of Biomedical Engineering.

Speakers at the event include NC State Chancellor Randy Woodson and NC State mechanical engineering alumnus Jim Yocum, a former student body president who is now executive vice president for DestinationRx Inc., which specializes in health care decision-support software.
