Mitasova Wins Open Source Award

Dr. Helena Mitasova, associate professor of marine, earth and atmospheric sciences, won the 2010 Sol Katz Award for Geospatial Free and Open Source Software.

Mitasova accepted the award, which recognizes those who have advanced open source ideals in the geospatial realm, during a conference in Barcelona, Spain, last month. She was honored for contributing a variety of  methods, algorithms, documentations and tutorials. A co-author of the first Open Source GIS book, Mitasova has published more than 50 scientific and academic publications linked to free and open source software.
