Mortenson in Hot Water

Greg Mortenson, author of Three Cups of Tea, the university’s summer reading selection for 2009, got a less than favorable review from 60 Minutes on Sunday. The CBS news magazine suggested readers take Mortenson’s book with a grain of salt, reporting that some of the most inspiring stories in the bestseller may not be true.

Mortenson denied the allegations in an interview with a reporter from his hometown paper.

Mortenson was a guest speaker during Wolfpack Welcome Week in 2009. His charity, Central Asia Institute, raised nearly $24 million last year to build and operate schools in Pakistan and Afghanistan.
