Changing Philanthropy

Ever wondered how long it takes for newcomers to an area to give to local nonprofits? What is the best way to engage people in volunteering and giving activities? The Institute for Nonprofits hosts an event next month examining these questions and a long-term study of older Americans residing in the Wilmington, NC, area. Richard Clerkin, associate professor in the School of Public and International Affairs, will discuss how a sense of belonging, social connections, and regional culture affect volunteering and giving. To RSVP, email your name, affiliation and email address to institutefornonprofits@ncsu.edu by Oct. 29. The free event runs from 3 to 4 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 7 at the University Room, NC State University Club, 4200 Hillsborough Street, Raleigh 27606.
