Editor’s note: This post comes from Mia de los Reyes, an NC State undergraduate who is double majoring in pure math and physics. A Park Scholar, de los Reyes was also recently awarded both a prestigious Goldwater scholarship and an Astronaut scholarship. The post is part of an ongoing series that we hope will highlight the diversity of researchers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. The series is inspired by the This Is What A Scientist Looks Like site.

My name is Mia de los Reyes, and I’m an undergraduate in physics and math. As a mere undergrad, I haven’t fully fleshed out my research interests, but I’m very interested in astronomy – especially the formation and evolution of galaxies. Right now, I’m also working in Dr. Karen Daniels’s nonlinear dynamics lab to understand the mechanics of a folded polymer tube that will be used in an ultracold neutron source here at NC State.

In my free time, I enjoy sleeping, reading, running/crawling half-marathons, and attempting to rock-climb. I’m also the head of Just Cuz Crew, one of NC State’s hip-hop dance crews. (Why do I dance? Just Cuz!)
