Monarch Revival

Media Advisory

NC State’s Lonnie Poole Golf Course and BASF are teaming up to help the monarch butterfly.

During a 9:30 a.m. event on Tuesday, June 13 at the golf course, media will have the opportunity to view the planting of milkweed habitats to help monarch butterfly populations grow. The iconic monarch butterfly has seen a 90 percent decline in just the last 20 years. Milkweed is the only site of monarch reproduction.

University and BASF officials will also release a small number of monarch butterflies and caterpillars during the event. The officials will also be available to answer questions about butterflies and their importance.

The Lonnie Poole Golf Course is located on NC State’s Centennial Campus at 1509 Main Campus Drive. Park in the back portion of the parking lot, away from the clubhouse. Signs and personnel will guide media for a short walk on a mulch pathway to the 16th tee for the event.
