Choose Your Own Adventure With the Women’s Center

In honor of Women's History Month, discover five ways you can engage with the Women's Center at NC State — throughout March and all year long.

Year-round, the Women’s Center at NC State leads our university in honoring the history and achievements of women in the Wolfpack. Now, as we kick off Women’s History Month in March, we’re challenging you to get involved. How is up to you, but here’s some help to chart your course — it’s time to choose your own adventure!

No matter what your role is on campus or what you’re looking for, you’ll find a path to explore below, tailored for you. What’s more, each path offers five ways to get involved — ranging from casual exploration to leveling up your leadership credentials:

  1. Explore the Women’s Center space and campus resources at your own pace, on your own time.
  2. Engage by participating in one of the center’s signature programs or events.
  3. Elevate the campus community by stepping into a leadership role within the center.
  4. Attend an event in March to honor Women’s History Month.
  5. Enjoy a themed Spotify playlist, handpicked by the Women’s Center’s own student workers.

Connect With Community

Nestled on the fifth floor of Talley Student Union, you’ll find the Women’s Center’s home: a calming, colorful space that’s open to everyone. And the best way to start creating connections is simply being there. (We’d love to see you!)

  • Explore: Head to the center and scout out a cozy corner (the space is filled with them) to relax, study or socialize.
  • Engage: Take a look at the signature events held by the Women’s Center annually — including campuswide celebrations and major awareness months — and mark your calendar to attend.
  • Elevate: Help us start the month strong on Friday, March 1 at the Women’s HERstory Month Kickoff in Talley Student Union.
  • Attend: Celebrate alongside Multicultural Student Affairs at the Women of Color Brunch on March 6.

Grow Into a Leader

The Women’s Center works to remind students that they’re leaders, too. Learn from and train alongside fellow bright minds to build your confidence and develop the skills you need to advocate for a more inclusive community.

  • Explore: Browse the Women’s Center reading list, featuring literature written by women authors and focusing on feminist works, all readily available in the center’s library.
  • Engage: Attend the Women of Color Retreat or a Women’s Center workshop.
  • Elevate: Become a peer educator with The Movement: a group of trained student-leaders facilitating workshops on gender equity, social justice and interpersonal violence.
  • Attend: Live stream a panel discussion about philanthropy and the legacy and ongoing contributions of NC State women.

Educate Yourself About Women’s History

At NC State, education is all around us. Take this month to learn more about the legacies of women throughout history, on our campus and around the world.

  • Explore: Read the NC State University Libraries’ historical timeline highlighting more than a century of trailblazing women and their milestones in our university’s history.
  • Engage: Visit the Women’s Center lending library, home to 500-plus books from feminist and women writers.
  • Elevate: Research and prepare a presentation to facilitate a Feminist Friday.
  • Attend: Head to the D.H. Hill Jr. Library to explore a 360-degree interactive exhibit honoring the contributions of women from all walks of life.
  • Enjoy: Listen to this playlist themed around women’s history, as curated by student workers in NC State’s Women’s Center.

Find Resources for Healing

Healing looks different for everyone. Find what works for you among the variety of resources and programs coordinated by the Women’s Center.

  • Explore: Take part in a grounding practice of mindfulness and artistic expression. Download the Colors of Healing coloring book, designed by and for NC State’s survivors of interpersonal violence.
  • Engage: Join the center’s informal drop-in counseling hours, Crafting + Connecting, held weekly on Thursdays from 1-2:30 p.m.
  • Elevate: Explore tips for supporting survivors, and familiarize yourself with survivor services offered by the Women’s Center.
  • Attend: Prepare to dish at Carmichael Recreation Center’s Teaching Kitchen in honor of International Women’s Day on March 27.

Engage as Faculty or Staff

Faculty and staff, you’re invited — and encouraged — to join the fun, too! If you’re searching for your community on campus, connect with the center and be on the lookout for opportunities that spark excitement.

  • Explore: Stay in the loop by subscribing to the Women’s Center newsletter to receive the latest news and updates.
  • Engage: Join the Pack Survivor Support Alliance, a continuing education program for faculty and staff to learn best practices when advocating for survivors and interpersonal violence prevention and response.
  • Elevate: Donate to the Survivor Fund, which offers life-saving support to individuals impacted by interpersonal violence.
  • Attend: Come together with your campus community to take part in the Women’s Center’s March programming — from our kickoff event in Talley Student Union to our visualization gallery in the D.H. Hill Jr. Library.
