Cashing In

New York City taxis can empty your pockets, but on Discovery Channel's hit game show Cash Cab, riders get paid. Behind the scenes, the knowledge and skills Greg Volk ('03) gained as an NC State student have paid off in the form of job satisfaction - and a pair of Emmy awards - as he comes up with questions to test contestants' recall of history and current events.

Hitting the Road

For the next seven days, NC State alum and Raleigh-based graphic designer Will Langley, armed with only a $20 bill and a full tank of gas, is taking to the streets to raise the profile of the growing number of unsheltered homeless residents facing daily, harsh realities in our local community.

Giving Thanks

Omar Acosta ('14) has dreamed of being a doctor since he was a child. As he began to narrow down his college choices, NC State moved to the top of the list - despite not having a medical school on campus. Now, Acosta says, he's on course to realize his dream - thanks to the university's unique interdisciplinary approach to education and the overwhelming support offered to Bone Scholars like himself.

A Pack’s Eye View of the West Wing

Eighteen months into his stint as President Barack Obama's press secretary and confidante, former Wolfpack soccer goalie Robert Gibbs ('92) is one of the most recognizable faces in the administration. Following His Star

For Alumni Association executive director Benny Suggs ('69), it's all about doing the right thing - and having fun along the way. Suggs, who served 30 years in the U.S. Navy and was deputy commander in chief, U.S. Special Operations Command, upon his retirement in 2000, was most recently general manager of the Harley Owners Group and Rider Services at Harley-Davidson Motor Co.

Keepin’ it Green

As the summer sun bears down on the lush grasses blanketing some of our nation's top athletic facilities, it's NC State graduates like John Turnour ('01) who are getting the call in hopes of keeping what's green from turning brown - saving their bosses considerable green of their own in the process.

Making a Difference

When disaster struck the Gulf Coast, experts and alumni from NC State quickly headed to the region to assist in cleanup efforts and to help restore wildlife and local beaches. Rock Can Roll

In continuing NC State's mission to assist and serve those beyond the borders of our campus, Student Government, the Union Activities Board and WKNC 88.1 came together last week with a singular goal in mind - cranking up the volume to help a local food bank fight hunger across 34 North Carolina counties.
