Learn About the History of French Bread

The world’s leading authority on the history of French bread — Steve Kaplan — will speak on campus on Wednesday, Oct. 10, at 6 p.m., in Poe 216. The title of his talk is “Cursed Bread” — a Tale of Mystery and Tragedy in France, 1945 – 1958. SKEMA, NC State’s French business school, will provide refreshments for the reception following his talk.

Kaplan is a terrific speaker and has appeared on everything from Conan O’Brien to the French evening news. He’s also been knighted, twice. Kaplan typically resides in Paris but is visiting Raleigh because he’s the keynote speaker at the 38th Annual Nineteenth-Century French Studies Conference (NCFS). The theme of this year’s colloquium is “Feast and Famine.” More details are here.
