Prepare for Active Weekend April 11-12

Next weekend will be the most active of the spring at NC State and a little bit of planning is necessary to navigate streets on and around campus.

Saturday, the Kay Yow Spring Football Game will be the highlight of a busy day in athletics at Carter-Finley Stadium and the second-annual Race 4 Change 5K, sponsored by the North Carolina Community Action Association, will occupy Centennial Campus.

Sunday will be even busier and more congested as the second-annual Rock-N-Roll Raleigh Marathon and Half Marathon wends its way through the City of Oaks, including portions of campus around Hillsborough Street, Pullen Road, Western Boulevard, Avent Ferry Road and Centennial Campus.

They are also encouraged to download PDF versions of the course map and road closure times.  If you are affiliated with a community group or business along the route, please share this information with your members and/or employees.

An interactive course map is available to see what streets will be closed at what times.

“We hope that the campus community and visitors to NC State enjoy all that the university has to offer,” says NC State Police Capt. Ian Kendrick. “For this weekend, we ask that everyone is patient with the events happening as there will be traffic delays in and around campus. However, detours and vehicle metering points at certain locations will be in place to help ease travel.

“To ensure that our community members and visitors can get to and from events on and around campus, it is asked that they plan for a little extra travel time so they are not rushed.”

Faculty, staff and students are advised that all vehicles, including those owned and leased by the university, that are parked on the race route on Sunday will be towed from the race area at the owners’ expense.

  • For main campus, travel via I-440 to Western Boulevard (towards downtown). Access campus from Varsity Drive, Dan Allen Drive Morrill Drive.
  • OR, travel via Gorman Street from Western Boulevard to Wolf Village Way or Sullivan Drive.
