The McKimmon Center for Extension and Continuing Education has been renamed NC State Continuing and Lifelong Education, to establish a stronger identification with the university and its strategic plan.

While the division name is changing, the name of the building where it is located will remain the same — the Jane S. McKimmon Conference and Training Center — to recognize the ideals and contributions of McKimmon, a pioneer in the field of continuing education.

“For 98 years, our division has been dedicated to being a key strategic leader, catalyst and partner in developing and delivering cutting-edge, market-driven continuing and lifelong education programs,” says Mark Bernhard, vice provost for continuing education. “Our new division name, NC State Continuing and Lifelong Education, is emblematic of the work we do and are committed to do.”

At the same time, the division remains committed to honoring McKimmon’s legacy and meeting the educational needs of individuals, organizations, governmental agencies and corporations.

The McKimmon Conference and Training Center is a hub of activity that affords access to a wide array of learning opportunities, professional meeting facilities, and university services — serving close to 95,000 participants in approximately 1,300 education programs, courses and events during the 2021-22 fiscal year.

“We at NC State Continuing and Lifelong Education look forward to partnering with faculty, staff and others to bring cutting-edge programming to the McKimmon Conference and Training Center, other locations around the state, country and world, as well as in online and hybrid modalities,” Bernhard says.
