Parker Steps Up as Williams Steps Down

At NC State, student body presidents are usually elected in March, not elevated in June.

But a summer surprise thrust Student Senate president Alex Parker to the top of Student Government’s executive branch as he prepared for a study-abroad trip. Matt Williams’ June 19 resignation as student body president presented Parker with a decision that could remap his senior year: assume the presidency, as the student body constitution allows, or call for a special election. He chose to fill the vacancy himself.

“Former student body presidents told me that this was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and that it would be a great chance for me to grow in leadership and professional skills, which I am excited to fulfill,” Parker told the Bulletin, NC State’s official faculty and staff news source.
