Pack on the Track

NC State senior and NASCAR driver Harrison Rhodes and his NC State Number 97 Camaro.

The NASCAR spotlight is shining on North Carolina this week, with the Coca-Cola 600 coming to Charlotte Motor Speedway and voting being held for the latest class of legends who will enter the NASCAR Hall of Fame in Charlotte.

We’re shining our own light on some of the many connections between NC State and the motorsports industry, which generates $6 billion in economic impact for North Carolina each year. Our alumni are integral to that industry: Graduates of our mechanical and aerospace engineering programs are driving technological innovation in NASCAR team shops, and alums from across campus play a role in NASCAR’s emergence as a major national sport.

Then there’s Harrison Rhodes, a senior business major who moonlights as a professional stock car driver. Rhodes’ #97 Team Obaika car will run in the Xfinity Series race Saturday in Charlotte, with NC State, Wolfpack Athletics and the NC State College of Engineering represented on the hood, door and bumper.
