Prepare for Packed Packapalooza

Saturday’s fifth-annual Packapalooza, an all-day block party and community festival on Hillsborough Street, will offer some new twists and turns for the 60,000 students, staff, faculty and Raleigh citizens who are expected to attend at some point during the day.

The rain-or-shine event, which is slated to begin at 2 p.m. and last until 10 p.m., will have more than 325 booths featuring 30 or so merchants and dozens of departments, student organizations and off-campus entities. Local live music, including Chancellor Randy Woodson’s jam group “Rode Hard: The Band,” will play throughout the day, culminating in an 8:45 p.m. concert on the Belltower stage by headliner We The Kings.

Hillsborough Street will close from the Pullen Road roundabout to Enterprise Street beginning at 3 a.m. and from Enterprise to Brooks Avenue beginning at 6 a.m. It will reopen after 4 a.m. Sunday.

Throughout the day, various athletics teams will sign autographs, while street performers entertain the crowd and Cirque de Vol performs in the heart of the festival. A full list of activities and a downloadable phone app are available at the Packapalooza home page.
