Atlantic Coast Conference commissioner John Swofford announced Friday that three NC State student-athletes, including senior gymnast Brittany Vontz, have been selected to receive the Weaver-James-Corrigan Award, given to student-athletes who have performed with distinction in competition, in the classroom and in the community.

An Inspirational Win

Dana Bible (right), whose battle with leukemia is well-known by Wolfpack and ACC fans alike, is a finalist for the 2011 Uplifting Athletes Rare Disease Champion Award. Bible - NC State's offensive coordinator, quarterbacks and wide receivers coach - was diagnosed in Nov. 2009 and underwent full treatment while maintaining his leadership role with the Wolfpack.

Senior engineering major Justin Boucher (right) didn't spend Spring Break 2010 toting beach chairs and downing frosty beverages. Instead, he joined a group of classmates on an Alternative Spring Break trip to Nicaragua, where he transformed cinderblocks, bags of mortar and wheelbarrows of dirt into sinks, showers and washing stations for needy local residents.

In the Spotlight

Less than a year ago, Adrienne Core ('10) was student teaching, putting the final touches on an undergraduate degree in secondary math education. On Saturday, she took center stage at the internationally broadcast Miss America pageant, competing for more than $200,000 in scholarship money while helping to raise awareness for the V Foundation for Cancer Research.
