Cates Avenue Closed Part of Thursday

Cates Avenue will be closed from noon to 2 p.m. Thursday from Dan Allen Drive to just in front of Carmichael Gym for the dedication of Holmes Hall. Friday's Homecoming Parade will close much of Hillsborough Street from 5:30 p.m until 7 p.m.

Holmes Hall Honors Groundbreaking Graduate, Athlete

Irwin Holmes, NC State's first black graduate and the first varsity athlete to compete at an Atlantic Coast Conference school, will be honored for his perseverance and dedication to the university when the University College Commons is renamed Holmes Hall.

LPGC Hosts NCAA Golf’s Raleigh Regional

The NC State men's golf team, led by sophomore Stephen Franken, is one of 14 teams, plus five individuals, that will participate at the 54-hole tournament beginning Monday at the Lonnie Poole Golf Course on Centennial Campus. Admission is free for all spectators.

Poppies, Flyover to Mark WWI Centenary

Attend a ceremony at the Belltower on Tuesday to mark the one-hundredth anniversary of the end of World War I. The plaza will be decorated with thousands of real and artificial red poppies, the internationally recognized symbol of remembrance.

Belltower Event Commemorates End of WWI

A May 1 event marking the centennial anniversary of the end of the First World War features a flyover of F-15 fighters, a 21-gun salute and a carpet of poppies. The Belltower ceremony is open to the public.

Who Was Eliza Riddick?

During the Spanish flu pandemic of 1918, hundreds of students and staff were afflicted and more than a dozen died. Among them was Eliza Riddick, a volunteer nurse who served in the campus infirmary.
